The benefit of knowing someone for a decade is knowing that they're going to be honest and upfront with you. Katie told us a few times leading up to the day that they were nervous and that they've never done a photoshoot before so they had no idea what to expect (Spoiler alert, that's the case for almost everyone). We start our sessions with a few test shoots so we can get our settings right and everyone can loosen up a little bit. We don't anticipate using these, it just help us all get comfortable with the process. But sometimes, it starts us out with great shots.
We met up on Plant St. in Winter Garden and there is no shortage of backdrop worthy locations.
We spent the afternoon in every vacant space we could find. Shops, alleyways, parking garages, fountains, the first picture on the bottom row above is a loading dock of a restaurant. Whatever we thought might work, Katie + Blas were down to try. Our hope with every couple is that they feel comfortable letting us know their vision (usually via a Pinterest board), and then trusting us to bring it to life. It helps all of us show up with the same creative flow and seeing what we can create together.
The biggest benefit of having two photographers is that while one of us is taking lead on a scene, the other is in a different spot, getting different angles of the same scene. This isn't just a photoshoot, it's a story, and we love bringing different persepctives to every moment.
Blas and Katie have a tradition where, every anniversary, they make a View Finder Reel of photos from the past year. As you probably guessed from the picture at the top of this page, it's also how he proposed. Fortunately for us, they brought it with them and we had a field day with it. The sun was behind the buildings so we were laying on the ground so the light from our phones could illuminate the "Will You Marry Me?" slide and we both screamed when we saw that it turned out. It was such a special thing to bring along and it was a great end to our day.
